U.S. President Joe Biden.received thousands of dollars in valuable gifts

**U.S. President Joe Biden** and his family
from foreign leaders in 2023, with some items having prices that are truly staggering. According to a report by foreign media, the **U.S. State Department** published an annual report on Thursday detailing that **First Lady Jill Biden** received a $20,000 gift (a 7.5-carat diamond) from Indian Prime Minister **Narendra Modi**. In addition, she was presented with a $14,063 brooch from the Ambassador of Ukraine and a bracelet, brooch, and photo album worth $4,510 from the President and First Lady of Egypt. President **Joe Biden** also received several valuable gifts, including a $7,100 photo album from South Korea's recently impeached President **Yoon Suk-yeol**, $3,495 statues of Mongolian warriors from the Prime Minister of Mongolia, a $3,300 silver bowl from the Sultan of Brunei, a $3,160 sterling silver tray from the President of Israel, and a $2,400 collage from the President of Ukraine, **Volodymyr Zelensky**. According to the **State Department**, the $20,000 diamond was placed in the **White House's East Wing** for official use, while other gifts presented to the President and First Lady were transferred to the **archives**. The report also stated that the **White House**, **State Department**, embassies, and various other government offices display gifts given by foreign heads of state, with additional gifts stored in government storerooms. **Government Gifts and U.S. Regulations** Under U.S. federal law, federal employees are not allowed to receive gifts worth more than a certain amount from foreign governments unless refusal would lead to offense or embarrassment, or if U.S. foreign relations would be affected. Such gifts, however, must be turned over to the U.S. government and become official property. U.S. law requires officials in the Executive Branch to declare gifts from foreign leaders valued at over $480. Many gifts of lower value are considered modest, while more expensive gifts are traditionally, though not always, transferred to the **National Archives** or displayed publicly. A spokesperson for **Jill Biden**, **Vanessa Valdivia**, mentioned that once the President and First Lady leave office, the diamond will be handed over to the archives. Recipients of gifts can also purchase the items from the U.S. government at their market value, though this is rare for valuable gifts. According to the **State Department's Office of Protocol**, which compiles the list of gifts, several CIA employees have reported receiving **watches**, **perfumes**, and **jewelry**, nearly all of which were disposed of. The total value of these gifts was **$132,000**.
